Heart Cooks Brain has recently incorporated many changes to our service monitoring capabilities!

Traditionally our server monitoring has been handled in-house and duties were distributed among the Heart Cooks Brain server cluster through an elaborate system of checks and balances where our servers continuously monitored one another and were able to take action and recover from most problems automatically or by alerting a technician if automatic recovery was not possible. This system proved largely effective but ultimately the test of time brought to light inherit weakness in this implementation. As an example, last month one of our parent data centers experienced an outage which affected two servers within the Heart Cooks Brain cluster. This outage was brief but in this particular scenario set-off a chain of events which prevented the servers from recovering automatically and synchronizing with the rest of our server cluster. As a result alerts were not sent out to technicians promptly and some clients experienced intermittent service disruptions as a result.

Since this event occurred we have been investigating new ways to prevent this any other scenarios with the potential for similar outcomes from happening again. Today we are proud to announce our enhanced monitoring capabilities! Our services are now under the watchful eye of Pingdom Systems. Their services add an extra layer of reliability by building upon our preexisting capabilities and, more importantly, introducing independent monitoring systems. Pingdom utilizes a geographically distributed and independent network of probes to provide uptime monitoring and performance analysis of services. Additionally, their probes provide deeper analysis and broader capabilities then previously available to us. Traditionally probes operate by checking for connectivity to services, if connectivity exists then the probing is considered a success. The reality is that while lack of connectively is an unmistakable sign of a disruption it isn’t the only sign. Pingdom’s probes interact with key services beyond simply checking for connectivity, they exchange data with and analyze the data returned from services. This implementation provides a much more accurate analysis of the health and integrity of monitored services.

Heart Cooks Brain is proud to announce our latest enhancement to the Webmaster Panel. In the next few days all hosted clients will have access to Analytics!

Analytics provides a detailed, visually-rich and comprehensive statistics about your web site’s traffic and your users. Analytics is a vast improvement over our previously used statistics interface, AWStats. AWStats will continue to be available to our existing hosted clients over the next several months.

Analytics has already imported your previous records and will provide you with immediate access to statistics over the entire life of your hosted account!

Stay tuned for more news which will follow in the next few days! For now we will tease you with a sneak-peek of the Analytics Interface….

Analytics Preview

Analytics runs on powerful and proven technologies and thus requires a modern web browser with Adobe Flash support.

The server was restarted to force a DNS synchronization across the Heart Cooks Brain cluster, the sever was unavailable for 8 minutes.

Heart Cooks Brain is extremely excited to announce the upcoming addition of Hybrid Hosting Services!

Our Hybrid Hosting Services combine our preexisting hosting services with the latest Distributed Cloud technologies — enabling virtually transparent integration of a global Content Delivery Network, backed by industry-leading Amazon Web Services.

Several domains experienced a disruption of mail services due to adjustments made to MX priorities. Those affected were unable to retrieve or send email for up to 2 hours. No incoming mail was lost during this time, mail received during the disruption was queued and later delivered.

Now you have the choice to log-in securely using our new SSL reinforced services. SSL ensures that your entire session is encrypted both ways—data sent to and from our severs is protected from prying eyes and malicious software. These new services are particularly useful for people who update their site or access their email on the go, and those who might often use public wifi hot-spots.

We recommend that you use our SSL services whenever possible.

To start using our SSL services right away, simply use the new URL’s below when logging-in:

Heart Cooks Brain Webmaster Panel
https://secure.heartcooksbrain.com/webmasterpanel

Heart Cooks Brain Webmail
https://secure.heartcooksbrain.com/webmail

You can still access the non-SSL services at their previous URL’s, but please remember to update your bookmarks to the new addresses above.

SSL access has also been extended to our mail services. If you use an application to send and receive email from your Heart Cooks Brain account you may need to reconfigure your program’s settings to take advantage of these new security enhancements. You can find more information regarding the configuration of  your email client through the Webmaster Panel. If you do not reconfigure your  email program at this time you will still be able to send and receive email as usual, but your access will remain unsecured.

Lastly, we have also extended secure access via FTP (and WebDisk).  To enable secure FTP you will need to make minor changes to your connection’s configuration. For assistance configuring your FTP client please review FileZilla: Configuration and Basic Usage [Knowledgebase]
